Do you remember Cosmic Brownies from your childhood? Those fudgy, chocolatey squares topped with colorful sprinkles were the ultimate treat in lunchboxes or after-school snacks. I have such fond memories of these brownies, but letโs be honestโholy cow, the ingredients are far from ideal. I mean, they were loaded with sugar, artificial flavors, preservatives, and a list of things I couldnโt pronounce even as an adult.
As much as I loved them as a kid, there's no way I want to feed that stuff to my own family. But the good news? Iโve created a version that tastes just as delicious but uses real, whole foods. These Homemade Healthy Cosmic Brownieswill totally take you back to those nostalgic days, except this time, youโll feel good about whatโs in them.
Why I Had to Create a Healthier Version
Iโm all about taking the treats I grew up loving and giving them a healthy spin. With two little ones of my own, Iโm always looking for ways to satisfy their sweet tooth (and mine!) while sticking to ingredients that nourish our bodies. When I looked up the original Cosmic Brownie ingredients, I knew I had to come up with a cleaner alternative. And let me tell you, these homemade healthy cosmic brownies are so rich and fudgy, theyโll definitely hit the spotโwithout all the junk.
The secret to these brownies? Weโre using almond flour and coconut flour as the base, so theyโre gluten-free and packed with healthy fats. Instead of refined sugar, Iโm using maple syrup or honey to sweeten them naturally. And, of course, dark chocolate chips give them that rich, indulgent flavor without the processed ingredients. Trust me, these brownies will give you that same satisfying chocolate fix while keeping things clean and wholesome.
Kid-Approved and Mama-Approved
One of my favorite things about these homemade healthy cosmic brownies is that theyโre a total hit with my kids. They love the colorful sprinkles on top (just like the originals!), and I love knowing theyโre getting a treat thatโs made with nutrient-dense ingredients. Weโve even started making these together as a fun kitchen activity, and they canโt wait to sprinkle the toppings.
And letโs be realโthis version might even be better than the originals. With the addition of almond butter and coconut oil, theyโre so rich and fudgy that every bite feels indulgent. Plus, Iโve snuck in some healthy fats and protein to balance out the sweetness, so no sugar crash afterward!
The Problem with Store-Bought Treats
I know how tempting it can be to reach for store-bought treats, especially when youโre juggling everything as a busy mom. But letโs take a quick look at those original Cosmic Brownies for a second. Packed with corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, and who-knows-what else, theyโre a far cry from something Iโd want to serve up these days.
Thatโs why these homemade healthy cosmic brownies are such a game changer. They give you all the flavor and nostalgia without compromising on ingredients. No preservatives, no artificial junkโjust wholesome, real foods that your family will love.
A Perfect Treat for Any Occasion
Whether youโre looking for a healthier dessert to bring to a party, a fun treat for your kidsโ lunchboxes, or a nostalgic indulgence for yourself, these Homemade Healthy Cosmic Brownies have got you covered. Theyโre easy to make, and you can even switch up the toppings if sprinkles arenโt your thing (though, letโs be honest, the sprinkles make them cosmic, right?).
I love making a batch of these when weโre craving something chocolatey, and theyโre perfect for keeping in the fridge for a quick snack or dessert. The best part is that theyโre rich and indulgent but made with ingredients that I feel good about.
Time to Indulge Without the Guilt
At the end of the day, itโs all about balance. Iโm a firm believer that you can enjoy treats and satisfy your cravings without filling up on processed ingredients. These homemade healthy cosmic brownies are proof that you donโt have to sacrifice taste for health.
So if youโre looking to bring a little nostalgia back into your life, give these homemade healthy cosmic brownies a try. Theyโre the perfect combination of fudgy, rich, and funโwith a clean ingredient list to boot. Your taste buds (and your kids) will thank you!
These Homemade Healthy Cosmic Brownies are a cleaner, more nutrient-packed version of the nostalgic treat you loved as a kid! Theyโre rich, fudgy, and topped with colorful sprinkles, just like the original, but made with whole-food ingredients and sweetened naturally. Perfect for a snack or dessert that satisfies your chocolate cravings without the sugar crash.
Healthy Cosmic Brownie Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Brownies:
1 cup almond flour
ยผ cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
ยผ cup coconut flour
โ cup coconut oil (melted)
ยฝ cup maple syrup or honey
ยผ cup almond butter (or any nut/seed butter)
2 large organic eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
ยฝ tsp baking soda
Pinch of sea salt
ยฝ cup dark chocolate chips (dairy-free if needed)
For the Chocolate Frosting:
ยฝ cup dark chocolate chips
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp almond butter (or nut butter of choice)
1 tbsp organic maple syrup (optional for extra sweetness)
For the Topping:
2 tbsp rainbow sprinkles or naturally colored sprinkles (optional, but for that Cosmic Brownie vibe)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with non-bleached parchment paper or grease it lightly.
Make the brownie batter: In a large bowl, mix together the melted coconut oil, almond butter, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Add dry ingredients: Stir in the almond flour, coconut flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt until fully combined. Fold in the dark chocolate chips.
Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a little fudgy is okay). Let the brownies cool completely in the pan.
Prepare the frosting: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the dark chocolate chips, coconut oil, almond butter, and maple syrup (if using). Stir until smooth and glossy.
Frost the brownies: Once the brownies are cooled, pour the melted chocolate frosting over the top, spreading it evenly.
Add sprinkles: For that classic Cosmic Brownie look, sprinkle the rainbow sprinkles over the frosting while itโs still warm.
Chill & set: Place the brownies in the fridge for 20-30 minutes to let the frosting set. Once set, slice into squares and enjoy!
These Healthy Cosmic Brownies will bring back all the childhood memories but with a much healthier twist. Theyโre packed with healthy fats, naturally sweetened, and loaded with rich chocolate flavor. Enjoy!
